North Carolina Department of Health and human Services has a crisis on their hands like many states in America today. The opioids abuse epidemic has him their state hard. Currently the STOP act in the state has halted “losing” prescriptions, Doctor shopping and forging prescriptions. The focus now turns to reducing illicit opioid abuse, which accounts for 72.9% of opioid overdose deaths inNorth Carolina in 2017. Based on a study by U of M, Cohorts from age 18 to 30 saw occasional heroin use to be harmful in the 73% to 78% range, the same age range that perceived narcotics to be harmful in the 44% to 48% range. With the data given it was clear that the stakes must be raised to raise awareness of the fatal risks of not only heroin but fentanyl and carfentanil. Our solution was to go right to the problem in its advertising response, to get the advertising in front of those most effected by using non-traditional billboards, Web banners, paid search, social media posts, Bus stops, in english as well as Spanish to accommodate the large Spanish speaking population that’s been hit the hardest.
